This cottage was once the home of the Gasworks Manager and his family. He, his wife and children were responsible, not only for burning the coal, to produce the gas, filtering it, to remove the unwanted gas, lighting the towns gas street lights, as well as all the billing and money collection. This 18th century bluestone cottage, now has all the amenities ideal for either a romantic couples stay or a group enjoying a get together with private walled garden and inviting sunroom.
The wall of the kitchen, behind the cooktop has been recently restored. Previous fixes over the years had involved adding concrete and plaster. In May 2019, we stripped all that back to stone and re-mortared with the correct lime mortar and we think it looks great. The kitchen has a large table, new gas cooktop, Microwave, Air Fryer, Coffee pod machine, bar fridge etc. and its own back door onto a private walled garden.
This cottage is our pet friendly cottage, we welcome your furry friends to be inside with you but if you need to go out without them, there is a secure undercover area for you to leave them. Please do not leave pets alone in the cottage or let them on the furniture or beds.
The bathroom has a walk in shower as well as a 2 person corner spa. two way access from both bedroom areas ensures your privacy. One bedroom has a queen size 4 poster bed, the other Queen sized bed is off the lounge area, with a privacy screen. There is also a separate sunroom overlooking the gardens and down to the river, ideal for reading with a glass of wine, or for wedding groups, getting ready and having their hair and makeup done.
We welcome two person bookings but please note a two person booking requiring both beds incurs a one off $55 charge payable on arrival.
While the Cottage is all on one level, there are a few little (3 cm) steps, between the kitchen and bathroom, and the bathroom and main bedroom, so if you are unsure of this, the more modern Garden suite may be for you. Parking for one car is available directly outside your cottage for easy access. We request that large SUV’s and any extra cars be parked in our spaces directly outside the entrance to the drive.
