This cottage was once the home of the Gasworks Manager and his family. He, his wife and children were responsible, not only for burning the coal, to produce the gas, filtering it, to remove the unwanted gas, lighting the towns gas street lights, as well as all the billing and money collection. This 18th century bluestone cottage, now has all the amenities ideal for either a romantic couples stay or a group enjoying a get together with private walled garden and inviting sunroom.
The wall of the kitchen, behind the cooktop has been recently restored. Previous fixes over the years had involved adding concrete and plaster. In May 2019, we stripped all that back to stone and re-mortared with the correct lime mortar and we think it looks great. The kitchen has a large table, new gas cooktop, Microwave, Coffee pod machine, fridge etc. and its own back door onto a private walled garden.
The bathroom has a walk in shower as well as a 2 person corner spa. One bedroom has a queen size 4 poster bed, the other bed is off the lounge area. There is also a separate sunroom, ideal for reading with a glass of wine, or for wedding groups, getting ready and having the makeup done.
While the Cottage is all on one level, there are a few little (3 cm) steps, between the kitchen and bathroom, and the bathroom and main bedroom, so if you are unsure of this, the more modern Garden suite may be for you. Park directly outside your cottage for easy access.
